Walking into the Potions Storeroom in the dungeons Katerina waved her wand wordlessly and the room seemed to expand opening up, several round tables appeared and upon them several utensils for prepping ingredients from small knives and cutting boards, to mortar and pestles, there were scales, and vials, and a number of jars of various sizes, as well as straining tools for catching juices. As she waved her wand again a number of things began to fly off the shelves and arrange themselves on a long table at the end of the room, she looked these over carefully and sent some of them back to the shelves and began pulling others out, there were large juicy dragons hearts, several bubotuber plants, a large lionfish, several different pods with various types of plant seeds in them, and other various potion ingredient bits and pieces.

As she finished laying everything out she whisked her wand an a chalkboard appeared floating in the air, flicking it again she watched as words began appearing on it.

Come in and take a seat on one of the stools at any table, do not touch anything, students caght touching anything before being given permission to do so will lose ten (10) house points. This activity is worth fifty (50) house points.

As the words finished appearing Katerina stood at the back of the room, looking through several of the more dangerous ingredients knowing that the students would not be able to assist with these, as they could with some of the others. She would be dealing with readying these for the next term herself.

While Edward wasn't one for lessons he did like to prepare potions ingredients, so when he had seen the posting for that on the bulletin board he figured that would be a good way to do something simple and get his mind off of everything going on with him for a while. Walking into the room he saw the normal supplied laid out some knives, cutting boards, pestles and mortars, all lined on several tables. He grimaced as he saw the dragon hearts on one end of the room, that was the one thing he hated dealing with, so he was hoping that Professor Petrov didn't assign him that. Making his way in to the back edge of the room furthest from her he picked a seat in the corner and sat himself there on a stool, he had been the first to arrive so he was going to sit back and relax before anyone else showed up.

Following Edward had become a little habit for Alex the past week, after she had heard of his little rendezvous with Elena. Alex had thought she showed promise at one point, however now she had finally figured out the girl was just a tag along she had no real strength of her own and thought being a werewolf made her all powerful. When it reality it only made her weak if she couldn't figure out how to own up to it and play it right. Following him down the corridor she saw him go into the potions storeroom where Petrov was recruiting people to prep ingredients for the next term for house points. Looked like he was going to earn back the points he had lost them in that little stunt he had pulled in the Quidditch pitch. Shaking her head she decided to keep on following and entered the potions storeroom, it smelled musty and was slightly cold for her liking, but she figured she could suffer through an hour or so. She made her way over to one of the stools near Edward and took a seat giving him a look with an arched brow daring him to say something about her proximity.

Josh watched through the dungeons, heading towards the storeroom where Professor Petrov was holding another potions class. Having enjoyed the previous class, Josh decided to give Potions another go. Once he entered the classroom, he saw the instructions written on the board and made his way towards an empty school. Once he sat down, he scanned the room, noticing the two other Slytherins from the previous class, as well as some of the other classes he's gone to, and went and took out his notebook. "Great. Those two again." He thought as he went about writing in his notebook. Josh liked to note down his time at Hogwarts, turning his year into one big story to tell his brothers when he returned home, either for Christmas, or when he finished for the summer.

Klaus had missed out on the first potions thing that had gone on this term so he was excited to see that there was going to be another one in the dungeons. He followed the directions given on the announcement for it and found himself in a dark part of the dungeons he hadn't been before. Most of the doors down here seemed to be locked...he had tried a few to see what was within so he kept moving to the only door in the hallway that was open and approached it smiling as he entered. There were a couple older Slytherin students it looked like and John the boy he had met at some of the other activities. He moved over towards him and away from the Slytherins taking a seat nearby and giving a small wave to the other boy as he wrote. He didn't want to interrupt whatever he was doing, he always looked very serious and was usually writing, maybe it was a story.

Charles was excited! It was his first lesson. And it was potions. As he was kind of nerdy, he figured he would do well in the class. If it was anything like the stuff he did with his chemistry set, it would be amazing.

He was thankfully on time for the class, though he was rather worried. He had gotten really lost. As Charles walked into the class, he breathed a sigh of relief. But that was until he read the board. He thought that ordering them not to touch anything made it more tempting to touch the ingredients. He wondered if any of them were dangerous. He decided to sit beside the boy writing in his notebook (Josh

Klaus hadn't seen the Ravenclaw boy come in and looked over to notice him sitting down near him and Josh. He gave a small smile and waved over to the other boy (Charles Harris). Hello, are you new here too? Klaus was bad at telling who was a first year or a third, or even seventh so he usually got it wrong, but maybe this time he would be right. The boy looked about his age and height, he waited on his response, wondering if he might possibly make a new friend to spend some time with here.

Alexia had come in from the grounds and headed towards the dungeons where there was going to be an activity prepping potion ingredients for points. Hufflepuff had been leading in the house cup and somehow were knocked out of the lead by Slytherin, she had no idea how when it seemed they were always losing points, but she wanted to do something and hopefully not injure herself in the process to try to get her house back on top. So she made her way to the dungeons and into the potions storeroom, noting most of the people there the only ones in her age group were Alex and Edward both Slytherins she knew had a bad reputation as being dangerous and hateful. So Alexia moved to a table in the back and sat by herself to wait and see if anyone else would join her, but figuring if not more room for her to work and less room for accidents.

Deciding to get things under way and assign tasks to newcomers as they arrived Katerina turned to see who all had shown. As she turned from the racks of potions ingredients she saw Herron and Valen, as well as Edwards from the other potions activity. There were three other there, a young Ravenclaw boy whom she had not had in a class or activity and an older Hufflepuff she knew as a walking disaster, along with a Gryffindor whom she did not know either. Sighing inwardly she felt as though this was going to end up being a pain, as the new students would not know how to extract potion ingredients well yet, however they could learn and maybe when they came into her basic class they would be more prepared than the rest of the lot.

She stood for a moment surveying the students before waving her wand and sending several ingredients towards them. Each of them landing in front of each of them. The ingredient in front of you will need to be prepared and measured into the correct amounts. Measurements will be placed on the board, and if you have issues I will be available for questions, but I will also be prepping the ingredients too dangerous to allow students to handle. If you get squeamish, step outside and go to the lavatory as we do not need to contaminate the ingredients stores here. She gave them each a stern look meting there expectant gazes as she had no tolerance for someone who got squeamish around potions ingredients, it was not as if the creatures they were extracting them from were alive.

Turning to the side table she flicked her wand again and writing began appearing on the board:

Dragons Heart: Remove heart strings carefully with a small knife, these are the long white tendrils there should be four (4) present per heart, then slice into one (1) inch by one (1) inch pieces, measure four (4) ounces and place in the jars given.
Bubotuber: Don dragon skin gloves, then squeeze the boils gently and carefully hold a vial to the boil to collect the pus as it comes out. Each vial holds one (1) ounce, a boil on the plant when squeezed may produce anywhere from four (4) to eight (8) ounces.
Roses: Pluck the petals individually and place in the large preserving bowl, do not tear the petals, and be careful none of them have holes or bad spots, those should be discarded. Then carefully pluck the thorns off and place ten (10) thorns per vial in the vials provided.
Lionfish: Take the provided pair of small pliers and pluck the spines from the lionfish individually, place spines ten (10) to a vial. Spines must be whole, any spine broken, or unable to be extracted completely should be discarded. Be extremely careful the use of dragon hide gloves is recommended.
Mandrake Root: Powder the root by cutting it into small pieces and using the mortar and pestle to crush until it is a fine white powder, then measure out in half (1/2) ounce measurements and place into the vials provided. Ensure there are no large chunks this may take a while, however larger chunks can cause instability when used in potions.
Dragon Skin: Take the small pliers provided and pluck the scales from the skin individually, being careful not to mar them. Place all scales into the large bowl provided, damaged or dull scales need to be separated out to be powdered.

The potions ingredients had flown off and landed in front of the students and Katerina looked them over as the roses landed in front of Alexia Tarabotti, the other ingredients flew off with the Mandrake Root and Dragon Heart landing in front of Alex Valen and Edward Herron, the Bubotuber plant landed in front of Josh Edwards, with the dragon heart flying off to land on the cutting board in front of Charles Harris, and the Lionfish landing by Niklaus Moretti, with the ingredients all sorted and the directions posted Katerina raised a brow and directed the students to begin.

Josh closed his notebook after seeing Niklaus arrive, not waning to seem rude. Just as he was about to reply and acknowledge him, he saw a young Ravenclaw, most likely a first year, sit beside them. He smiled at the young boy and went to speak but saw that Professor Petrov was about to begin the lesson. He placed his notebook away and focused on the Professor expalinging what the lesson would consist of. He was very intrigued about how each individual student would be given a single ingredient to use and work on. Perhaps they would create a single potion between the entire class. As he listened, he watched as his particular ingredient, the Bubotuber plant, was placed in front of him by Professor Petrov and the instructions were written on the baord.

After receiving the instructions on how to tackle the ingredient, Josh set to work. Taking 8 vials, he set them beside each other, ready to receive the juice poured from the boils of the plant. Taking a pair of dragon skin gloves, Josh picked up the plant, grabbing the first vial and holding it underneath the boil. He gently squeezed the boil and, with a loud POP, watched as the juice began to flow. After a while, the vial was full. He then set about filling the other vials, until all vials were full of the slimy juice. He carefully took the gloves off and watched as the other students went about their ingredients.

As Klaus spoke to Charles when he sat down, he smiled back and said Yes I I am. M'Name's Charles. And Yours?. As Charles waited for an answer, he began unpacking his books and other stuff. Not that he knew what to do with any of it.

As the professor began talking, Charles returned a smile at the older looking boy beside him. He seemed nice enough. And then Charles' focus immediately switched to the ingredient in front of him. Charles whispered Awesome. Charles knew he was not going to be squeamish anytime soon. Charles raised his hand to ask the Prof Um... Which tools should I be using for this?

Katerina had been looking at an old vial of the draught of living death that seemed too translucent it had turned into a poison when the young boy raised his hand and asked his question. Turning she poured the vial into a cauldron of potion negation brew she had going to discard the old potions that were out of date or had turned. You will need the small knife and the cutting board. You need to use the smallest knife there to slice the heartstrings out and lay them on wax paper, I will deal with them after, then the heart should be sliced with the second smallest knife into small pieces. She moved towards Charles Harris table and pointed out the knives in question as she said this. Be careful and cut the heart slowly, because trying to go too fast ill result in the knife bouncing off the tissue and possibly slicing your hand open. She finished speaking and nodded at the boy to begin while she turned back to surveying the potions stock she had to finish clearing it out.

Charles listened attentively as the prof described what to do with the heart. It was such a spectacular organ, he was amazing that he was touching it. Charles said Thank toy professor. In case I hurt myself, will you be able to help? Then, he began to carefully follow Professor Petrov's instructions. But it was challenging to cut while his hands were shaking. He murmured to Josh I'm certainly nervous about this.

Katerina watched the boy begin and raised a brow as he asked if she would be available to help him should he mess up she merely nodded and said coldly. I'll get you to the hospital wing and someone will patch you up. She said this coldly and turned away back to sorting out the old stored potions.

Listening to the other little kids chatting was not interesting to Alex so she decided to lean in closer to Edward and talk to him in a low tone before Petrov started giving instructions. I hear you've been seen around with Balakov, Herron. She said this with no inflection to it, and then was interrupted by Petrov giving out instructions and assignments, when a squishy heart landed in front of Edward and another landed in front of one of the younger boys Alex smiled. Edward hated to have to deal with dragons hearts or other organ pieces for potions. Grabbing the root and pulling it towards her she smirked at Edward as she started to slice it into pieces and then put it into the mortar and started pounding it with a pestle to powder it. That looks juicy, have fun with it why don't you. She said it sarcastically and started pounding the mandrake root into dust pouring each piece she pounded down into powder into a larger bowl.

As Edward took in Alex's question he barely had time to reply sharply, What of it? Before Professor Petrov began speaking, giving them directions. He had dealt with all of these potions ingredients before so he didn't pay much attention to it until the heart came zooming over and landed wetly in front of him, he hated the mess of dealing with a Dragon Heart. He pulled it over and picked up a knife sighing as Alex made another sarcastic comment at him giving her a look, At least you got something easy, that should be familiar to you though crushing things, it seems all you ever do is crush everything in your path. He raised a brow and began slicing the heart strings out one at a time and laid them out on top of the wax paper he had laid out next to his work area. Why are you even here Alex, pretty sure that we settled our discussion in the last potions activity where you stabbed me, I punched my brother, and we all parted ways with one another...amicably. He said the last word sarcastically as he looked over at her and finished pulling the last heart string from the dragons heart.

Josina was new here, and hadn't taken any classes yet, so she was excited when she heard that there would be a Potions activity going on. Although what really interested her was Defense against the Dark Arts, she thought Potions couldn't be that bad. After all, she had read numerous books on the subject, what could go that terribly wrong?
Being careful not to touch anything, she took a seat and listened with rapt attention as Prof. Katerina Petrov started speaking.
She noticed 2 Slytherins across the room from her. She had been here long enough to know that they were troublemakers. Inwardly she groaned, hoping they wouldn't disrupt the class.
Josina saw Niklaus Moretti, or Klaus, as he liked to go by (the boy she had met at the welcome party) and two other boys she didn't know, one looked like a first year Ravenclaw. The only other girl in the room was Slytherin, and being Gryffindor, she had no desire to go and talk to her. Besides, she looked rather cold and unfriendly.
She silently started pulling out the heartstrings from the dragons heart, hoping she wouldn't get in trouble for doing something wrong, or speaking out of turn, as so many people said she was apt to do.

As another student came in Katerina did not bother to turn around for the moment as she as dealing with a small rack of stored Veritaserum that had gone quite potent and needed to be discarded of properly. As she did turn around having completed the task she saw the girl (Josina Pranger) handling one of the dragon hearts and whisked her wand taking it from her quickly. These are for the older students to handle, I do not trust the younger students to be able to separate the heart string correctly, you will be working with this... She waved her wand a medium sized chunk of dragon skin with the scales still intact flew from the table of assorted ingredients and landed in front of the girl with a small thud. There are directions on the board, be sure to follow them and be careful, if you damage too many scales then the work done here will have been for nothing. She said this briskly and looked around seeing that the other students were working and making some progress with their set tasks before she moved over to previously stocked ingredients checking if they were still well preserved.

(OOC: Don't mind Katerina being gruff, she's like Snape. http://l.yimg.com/us.yimg.com/i/mesg/emoticons7/1.gif )

Just as Josina was starting to pull the heartstrings from the dragon heart, Prof. Petrov came by and rather gruffly said that dragon hearts were for older students to handle. Instead, she gave Josina a piece of dragon hide, pointing out that instructions were on the the board, and she should be sure to follow them carefully. The instructions for Dragon Skin were as follows: Dragon Skin: Take the small pliers provided and pluck the scales from the skin individually, being careful not to mar them. Place all scales into the large bowl provided, damaged or dull scales need to be separated out to be powdered.
Silently, Josina began to pluck the scales and separate them. It was rather tedious work, but she needed good marks, so she kept going, carefully separating them.

As the students continued to work on sorting out the ingredients they were working on Katerina had continued to sort out the old things they had in storage mainly old things she had brewed and other items she had kept from students attempts. As well as antidotes to some of the common potions she had people brew in classes. The shelves were now much emptier and cleaner, with a flick of her wand she sent the dust flying from the shelves and cleared the cobwebs from the room sending them into a bin in the corner before turning and surveying the students as they were working. Valen, Herron, do you really need to talk to sort out potions ingredients? She asked them sharply, both of these students were older and as such should know not to get on her nerves as she walked over and surveyed the others she narrowed her eyes examining their work. Nice work Edwards, when you finish with that grab the last dragon heart and work on it please. She complimented the one Gryffindor boy who seemed to have done a good job thus far and managed to get a fair bit of pus from the plant he had been working with. As the second Gryffindor girl worked on pulling scales Katerina merely nodded at her and moved past also checking over Harris' work and nodding in approval. They weren't all hopeless cases it seemed. As you finish you may either request another ingredient to manage or exit quietly while the rest finish up, you will be awarded points upon completion. She spoke this time to the lot of them as she got back to the center of the room and sat on a stool by one of the cleared off work benches, making notes for the first classes of winter term.

As the roses came to land in front of her Alexia had a feeling that they were given to her in the hopes that she not destroy anything, she blushed furiously as she remembered this professor and her dislike of Alexia's klutzy ways. She sheepishly took the roses and picked one up pricking her finger on the thorns and frowning as she did so, then slowly began to carefully pluck the petals from them and pile them into the bowl one by one. She did keep tearing them and soon had a pile of torn rose petals almost as high as the pile of normal rose petals. Professor Petrov was not going to be happy with that result, so she tried to peel them slower and more careful as she continued. Eventually her bowl was full and she was on the last one as she finished plucking them she silently took the bowl over and sat it on the table with the other finished ingredients before creeping out slowly and not saying a word.

Josina felt that their might be a bit of hope for her in Potions when Prof. Petrov actually nodded at her. As she finished pulling the last scale from the skin, Josina raised her hand and said Excuse me, I've finished with this piece of dragon skin, may I have another ingredient to work on.... Hoping against hope that Prof. Petrov might actually think she did a good job, and would give her something else to do. Josina saw Alexia, the Hufflepuff klutz, or at least that's what everyone call her, blush furiously. She knew why. Prof. Petrov had no time for students, and especially not those who were klutzy, like Alexia, and she knew that Prof. Petrov was almost exactly like Snape. She just hoped that for once, Alexia might actually not embarrass herself and get Prof. Petrov upset.

As the Gryffindor girl finished her fist ingredient and asked for another Katerina narrowed her eyes and looked over her work for a moment before she simply nodded, flicking her wand another one of the bubotuber plants moved from the main table to land in front of the girl along with a rack of vials and stoppers. You may work with this, it is a bit more difficult than the dragons skin, the instructions are on the board with the other directions. Be careful and wear the proper gloves. She turned back to what she was doing and began making notations in her records about the potions she had thrown out and the new ingredients they were working on right now which would be added to the stores and used for future classes.

Thankfully, Prof. Petrov seemed to approve of her work, and gave her one of the Bubotuber plants to work on. As Josina put on the dragon skin gloves, she sqeezed out the pus into the vial, being careful to extract as much as possible. She realized that what she had heard was true. The pus really smelled of petrol. It was rather gross, actually. But this wasn't something she couldn't handle. So she kept going, willing herself not to feel queasy. It would just give Prof. Petrov a reason to dock marks, and she knew that Prof. Petrov already strongly disliked Gryffindors.
